Season's Greetings and Good Weekend!

our annual comment contest has ended and three winning entries for butterfly prizes are posted below…good luck! 🤞

Comment Contest Winners?🗣✍️

Thank you to more than 70 community members who submitted comments in our annual comment contest to win a $40 credit from our shop where you can buy a butterfly garden flag or raising supplies for growing healthy butterflies.

All blog comments were numbered and then 3 winners were randomly drawn from all correct entries.

Congratulations to 3 community members who won a $40 shop credit:

Susan W:

I would like to have the Milkweed Seeds to grow more trees. A couple of our teachers know where to find the caterpillars (in another town) to collect them and bring them to school. Several of us help raise them into butterflies. It’s almost school-wide! Their metamorphosis is just amazing!!! Our students really get involved! Talk about “hands-on” learning!!! Thank you!

Marcia W:

I would like to give The Caterpillar Cage (Day 8) with a PooPoo Platter and Peg Rack Feeding System (Day 9) to my friend “The Mother of Monarchs” who has managed a Monarch Butterfly Conservancy for the past 10 years! She can use some new equipment to care for her monarchs and ‘raise the migration!’

Dan M:

1. I would most like the Lego Blue Morpho Insects Kit

2. Why? The kit is so unique and engaging…It’s not your typical gift! It combines the fun of LEGO building with the fascinating world of insects, making it a unique and engaging experience for the builder. It is educational as the included booklet provides information about each insect, making it a fun and educational experience….my 9-year-old granddaughter loves building with Legos and she loves/helps me with my monarch butterfly tagging and release each year. What a great gift!

All 3 winners have been sent the shop credit via the email address used to enter the contest. (Susan, Marcia, and Dan…please reply to this email if you haven’t received the credit)

Christmas is less than two weeks away so it's time to sow the seeds of success for next season...

Winter Solstice Sowing❓❄️🌱

In our northern region, we typically winter sow our milkweed seeds in February on Super Sow Sunday 🏈, but for those further south with an abbreviated winter and early spring, many gardeners sow seeds on/near the winter solstice, December 21st, to make sure seeds receive a proper cold moist stratification to improve germination rate next spring.

Before we begin sowing, here’s a checklist of what you’ll need to get started:
