Good Wednesday Royal RAISEr,

we are getting a much-WELCOME deluge of rain. As I started writing this Tuesday morning, the rain gauge was overflowing (2.5”) and it’s supposed to rain through early afternoon Wednesday.

We finished our FINAL planting Monday, so this soaking rain event couldn’t have happened at a better time.

Migration update: I finally saw my first Minnesota Monarch of the season on Sunday afternoon (May 18), fluttering wildly around the garden with cool temps in the low 50’s. It was back again Monday (in similarly cold weather)…I could not get close enough to tell whether it was a male or female but did not see it laying eggs. It looked like a new butterfly, definitely not a migrant returning from the mountains of Mexico.

In your last email I discussed raising monarchs inside and how we do this. Today, I’ll just show you the basic set up to give you some inspiration for yours.
