A NEW Butterfly Emerges- What to Expect❓🦋 🧐
Hello ,
I hope the 🐕 days of August are treating you and your monarchs well...
The drought-quenching rains have continued in Minnesota, and the garden is spring-lush and filled with milkweed for monarchs. 💦🌿🦋😁
We are trending cool for August with some late-September highs in the 60’s and low 70s.
Monarch activity is still going strong and mama monarchs have been busy across the garden and yard...
I brought in 4 "lawn milkweed" eggs this week, and all have successfully hatched in food storage containers to become baby caterpillars. They’re now feasting outside in a BIG cube with an old tarp draped over the top for extra rain and wind protection.
To protect monarchs from high wind, heavy rain and hungry predators, I suggest raising indoors by an open window if possible. For now, our setup is good, but not optimal for survival (see bottom of this newsletter for a photo)
If they're lucky, they'll grow and transform until one day, they're ready for the final stage of metamorphosis…
