One Week Before RTM + Supply List

Greetings Monarch Raiser,

I hope you had a festive fourth and are enjoying an extended holiday weekend. ⛱️

Don’t worry...we won’t be starting raise the migration until next weekend (July 13th) so you can enjoy the holiday, and have some extra time to gather your supplies.

But today, I’m here to calm some fears from concerned community members…

WHERE have all the monarchs gone❓😢

In late June and early July, I often get emails from community members concerned they haven’t seen any butterflies. There is a typical lull in sightings until early July before the third generation of butterflies is born and the population expands throughout the territory.

There are several factors that dictate when (and how large) this butterfly boom is including weather patterns, habitat availability, spring migration population, and the use of pollinator-killing pesticides.

In Minnesota, we’ve had a bounty of rain that has benefitted the garden, but cooler temps that have slowed down the monarch life cycle so we seem to be a bit behind schedule…a string of summery temps next week should speed up these slow growth cycles. So don’t give up, more butterflies should be on the way soon:
